Young people wanting to apply for the BEEI Teaching Assistants programme were met with a blank screen as they tried to apply on Tuesday morning.

Phase 5 of the programme opened for applications on Tuesday and it wasn't long before the very large load of people wanting to apply caused the SAYouth website to crash.

Department of Basic Education

The Basic Education Department has confirmed that all applications for the teaching assistants jobs must be made on the SAYouth website and cannot be done at schools.

Young people hoping apply for the BEEI Teaching Assistants saw the message "Page Error" as they tried to load the page.  Others waited for many minutes but the site still didn't load.

Users who were able to access the site didn't see the full page but just text on a white background.

The Teachers Assistant programme is very popular as it provides 200,000 jobs at public schools across the country. Having a job close to home is very helpful as it saves a lot of time and money with transport each day.

SAYOUTH Mobi Website

Applications will be open until the 9th of May so there is still plenty of time for hopeful applicants to register their interest in the scheme.

It is important not to pay for applications to the programme. The Education Department has confirmed that no fee should be paid for applying for the Teaching Assistants programme and young people should be wary of scammers.

So the advice to young people who want to apply for the programme is to keep trying on the SAYouth mobi website until applications slow down.

There's no reason to believe that any priority will be given to people who apply first.

This was the error page that greeted people wanting to apply:
