Applications for the fourth phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) will be arriving soon, following the conclusion of the third phase.
For the qualifying youth across the country, this means they can start submitting their registrations on the SAYouth website. But is the same true for Funza Lushaka students?
Recipients of Funza Lushaka bursaries are, unfortunately not, eligible to apply. If you look at the requirements, students who are financed by Funza Lushaka will not be eligible for these job openings, according to the Department of Education, which will be hiring teacher assistants once more.
The primary requirement for the teacher assistant vacancies is that participating candidates not be employed, enrolled in school, or undergoing training. If you are a student, you will not be eligible even if you are not financed by Funza Lushaka or NSFAS.
The following additional requirements must be met to qualify for the phase 4 PYEI vacancy opportunities:
- Must be aged 18-35 years and must not be 36 years before 31 March 2022, except for LSEN schools where age is not a limit.
- Must live within the area where the school is located
- Only one person will be considered per household
- People who receive social grants such as R350 SRD grants, disability, and child grants.
- Must not have a criminal record
- Must meet the category requirements per job.
To make teaching and learning more effective, teaching assistants were hired, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic was disrupting the educational system.
There are 255 000 employment opportunities for young people aged 18 to 34 who are not actively enrolled in school, working, or in school-related training, according to the provincial department of education (NEET).
These positions are for young people who reside close to the school.
