Matric Results

Matric Results will be available in a number of ways - online or at school. We have all the details. 


The period between the last exam paper and the release of Matric results are some of the most anxiety-inducing, nail-biting weeks of school-leavers’ lives.


The Grade 12 EMSS learners from across the country received their certificates and top achiever awards on 13 March 2021. Despite an extremely disruptive year, the EMSS Grade 12s showed high levels of resilience and drive by attaining an impressive 84% pass rate, of which 63% attained bachelor passes.


Sibulele from KwaNobuhle township in East London is a Matric who worked magic and achieved 8 distinctions and plans to become a forensic pathologist. Sibulele tells how lockdown made things difficult and has advice for the matrics of 2021.


The Department of Basic Education has said that the decline seen in 2020's Matric pass rate is not Covid related and would have actually been very close to last year's pass rate. The Matric Class of 2020 achieved a national pass rate of 76.2%.


Equal Education released a statement that pointed out a number of factors that contributed to the decline in the matric pass rate.


After congratulating the Matrics of 2020, the Department of Basic Education turns its attention to implementing support systems for Grade 12 learners who did not do so well in 2020.

The Western Cape Education MEC, Debbie Scafer says the provincial department is very pleased with the results achieved by the 2020 matrics. The province placed third in the country for their overall pass rate.

Education unions, Naptosa and SADTU have said that they are pleased with the 2020 matric results despite the drop in the pass rate, which was expected due to the effects of Covid-19 on teaching and learning.

Basic Education's Minister, Angie Motshekga, will announce the Matric results today as they are set to be released. Learners will then be heading to schools for their Matric results statements tomorrow.
