There was some discussion this year about whether matric final results would be published in newspapers.  Here is what you need to know about the release of matric results this year.

The Basic Education Department has provided learners with an online platform where they will be able to view their matric results online. This is one of the options available for learners to receive their results.

The Minister of Basic Education will announce the national Matric pass rate on the evening of the 13th January 2025. She will also congratulate the top achievers will be present at the event.

Individual learners can receive their matric results on the following day - Tuesday 14th January 2025. The former learners can attend the school where they wrote the exams to get their full results.

There has been a back-and-forward between the Basic Education Department and the Information Regulator about whether the Matric exam results will be published in newspapers.  The Regulator is concerned about the privacy of Matric learners and issued an order that the newspapers shouldn't be used.  When the Education Dept said they would ignore this the Regulator issued a R5million fine.  The case has gone to court so there is no final answer with only a few days to go before the release.

Whether the results will be in newspapers or not, Matric exam candidates can access their results online.
