The new influencers are as distinct from today's mainstream culture as the original influencers were from their mainstream culture. The new influencers are not hippies or beatniks or slackers but successful business people, who are promoting a go-getter way of life as opposed to the laid-back, mellow lifestyle.
But there is another important difference between then and now: In many ways, we have lost control over our own narratives. The new influencers are increasingly linked with consumerism and commercialisation.
I grew up in a time when the ideal of "making it" was to achieve a leisurely life.
Influencers are the people I know who have used their time and energy to create a life of abundance and freedom, while making a positive impact on the world.
What makes someone influential has nothing to do with whether or not they are interesting, or even how smart they are. What makes someone influential is how many of their ideas other people adopt. And it turns out that an idea can be extremely simple, even stupid, and still be influential.
How can I live an influencer life?
1. DARE TO DREAM BIG
Don't be scared to dream big- your dreams are yours for a reason and take a leap of faith. If you don't believe in yourself no one will believe in you. Your dreams are your own and they should help guide your life.
2. PRACTICE GRATITUDE DAILY
Practice gratitude daily and make it a habit to appreciate the little things in life. It'll make you more optimistic, less anxious and more satisfied with your life. The more grateful you are, the happier you'll be!
3. DO THINGS YOU LOVE EVERY DAY
Make sure you're doing something everyday that lights up your soul- whether it's catching up on a good book, going to yoga or taking time to be creative. Follow what makes you happy and keep learning new things so that you can keep growing as a person!
4. LIVE A LIFE OF INSPIRATION AND PASSION
Try and surround yourself with people who inspire and motivate you, seek out opportunities that excite you and try new things! You never know what could happen unless you try! Life is short so live every day like it's your last!
