After a long wait the fifth round of the Teaching Assistants programme has started with 200,000 young people starting working today in public schools. 


There are 200,000 vacancies available to work as Teaching Assistants in schools across the country. You could be working at a local school near you. Here's all the info on how to apply.


The Teaching Assistants programme is very popular with young job seekers as it provides employment in schools across the country. Just how popular it is became clear as the website crashed and struggled to operate under the load of applications on Tuesday morning.


Stellenbosch University in collaboration with the Research on Social Economic Policy and Teacher Demographic Dividend (TDD) project found that 70% of teachers cited administrative work as their biggest cause of stress.


South Africa needs teachers in critical areas including the foundation phase where learners are taught how to read. However, budget cuts mean that there is less money available to provide students with teaching bursaries. 


Teachers play a critical role in educating children and shaping the minds of our future generations. Several factors must be addressed to ensure the brightest minds pursue careers in the teaching profession. 


Postgraduate students studying education at the University of Pretoria who are without university funding after NSFAS stopped funding them, are now demanding that NSFAS provide financial support to them again.
