The Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), launched by the Department of Basic Education (DBE), aims to reduce some of the high rates of youth unemployment while also creating job opportunities in the country.
Following the completion of the third phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI), applications for the fourth phase will be opening soon. However, another crucial aspect of the application process is remembering the number of teaching assistants recruited per household.
The education department has clarified the matter by stating that only one teaching assistant can be recruited per household. As a result, young people who meet the requirements can register on the SAYouth website from anywhere in the country.
To be eligible for the phase 4 PYEI teaching assistant vacancy opportunities, applicants must also meet the following requirements:
- Be aged 18-35 years and must not be 36 years before 31 March 2022, except for LSEN schools where age is not a limit.
- Live within the area where the school is located
- Remember only one person will be considered per household
- People who receive social grants such as R350 SRD grants, disability, and child grants.
- Not have a criminal record
- Meet the category requirements per job.
There are currently 255 000 available employment opportunities for young people aged 18 to 34 who are not actively enrolled in school, working, or in school-related training, according to the provincial department of education.
These positions are for young people who reside close to the school they will apply to be recruited.
