The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) aims to create jobs for the unemployed youth living in South Africa. Beneficiaries of the PYEI are employed in several government sectors for a set period, with the Basic Education Employment Initiative taking place within the Education sector.
The Teaching and General Assistant initiative focuses on employing South Africa's youth in these positions within various schools across the country. These two positions are available within the programme.
Applications for phase 4 of the BEEI will open later this month and will allow thousands of youth to be employed at a school in their community.
However, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) revealed that applicants will need an academic qualification before they can be considered for placement.
To apply for a teaching assistant position, you must have the minimum of a matric certificate. Preference will be given to those who hold any other qualifications from a tertiary institution.
If you want to apply for a general assistant position, a matric certificate is not a requirement; you can apply even if you don't have one.
Other requirements include:
- You must be aged between 18 and 34 years old.
- You must live within a 5 km radius of the school (or 30 km radius if it is a small, micro or farm school).
- Anyone who did not participate in the first three phases of the PYEI/BEEI.
Those who CANNOT apply include:
- Those who are currently participating in online, distance learning or short courses
- Full- and part-time students.
- Anyone working, training or in a learnership
- Anyone who has participated in the previous three phases.
- Those without the minimum of a matric certificate, unless they are applying for a General Assistant position, in which case a matric certificate is not needed
- Anyone that doesn't fall within the stipulated age range of 18 - 34 years old and/or is not a South African citizen
- Anyone not living within a 5km radius of an urban school, or not living within 30km of a rural/farm school
Applications for Phase Four of the Teaching Assistant jobs will open on the 26th of September, and will close on the 16th of October, 2022, one minute before midnight.
The youth applying are able to register on the SAYouth.Mobi online recruitment system for the positions. The website is free to use and does not require any data.
Interviews of successful candidates will be conducted during November and December of this year.
