The Department of Basic Education (DBE) confirmed a fifth phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) / Basic Employment Education Initiative (BEEI) will be implemented. It is anticipated that more than 200,000 youth will gain employment through the programme.

Applications for teaching assistant positions in Phase 5 will open on 22 April 2025. This programme targets youth aged 18-34, specifically those who will not turn 35 before the end of March 2026.

There are several requirements for Phase 5 teaching assistant jobs. The fifth phase of the programme will feature a major change from previous phases.

The BEEI has been implemented for four phases since its inception. However, when phase 4 applications, previous participants were not allowed to receive jobs in subsequent phases.

However, according to the Phase 5 teaching assistant requirements, youth who previously participated in the programme can apply.

Youth who participated in the previous phases (I - IV) may apply, however, they must meet all the eligibility criteria.

Requirements For Phase 5 Teaching Assistant Jobs

The DBE confirmed that Phase 5 teaching assistants will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000 for six months, along with R30 for data.
