The Department of Basic Education (DBE) confirmed that Phase 5 will be implemented for the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI). The programme has created more than one million work opportunities for unemployed youth in South Africa during its previous phases.
Phase 5 of the BEEI programme will target between the ages of 18 and 34, turning 35 by the end of March 2026, to assist and support teaching and learning. The fifth phase of the programme will create at least 200,000 job opportunities for unemployed youth in South Africa.
Teaching Assistant Applications on SAYouth.Mobi
Applications for teaching assistant positions in Phase 5 will open on 22 April 2025 on the SA Youth.mobi website.
The DBE encouraged prospective applicants to monitor the DBE’s social media pages for information on the opening of teaching assistant applications for 2025.
The DBE will communicate formally through its platforms, including media statements, once the system is ready to launch.
Apply On SAYouth.mobi
Youth must register on the SAYouth.mobi platform for teaching assistant jobs. The DBE confirmed that the SAYouth.mobi platform will be the only recruitment source for 2025 teaching assistants.
The DBE will be working with SAYouth.mobi for the recruitment of young people. This will be the only source for recruitment.
The DBE cautioned members of the public against applying for teaching assistant jobs on other platforms. Scammers have previously resorted to using the PYEI to solicit information from young people.
The SAYouth.mobi platform is zero-rated which means it's free to use and applicants are not required to have data to register and use the platform.
The DBE would therefore like to encourage young people to register on SAYouth.mobi, or if registered in the past, ensure that login details are renewed, ensuring readiness for the application process.
Youth are encouraged to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) as it will be required when applying for teaching assistant jobs.
Young people chosen to be part of the programme gain valuable work experience as well as several soft skills. Teaching assistant positions are paid, and participants receive a monthly stipend.
The fifth phase of the project will be funded by the National Treasury and the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) respectively. Allocations from the UIF will be administered by the Industrial Development Corporation.
