The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has opened applications for phase 5 of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI). Youth around the country can now apply for teaching assistant jobs.
Phase 5 of the BEEI programme targets individuals between the ages of 18 and 34, turning 35 by the end of March 2026, to assist and support teaching and learning.
The government's teaching assistant programme created more than one million work opportunities for unemployed youth in South Africa during its previous phases. The fifth phase of the programme will see the creation of more than 200,000 jobs.
Applications for teaching assistant positions in Phase 5 are now officially open as of 22 April 2025.
The DBE is encouraging all eligible applicants to apply as soon as possible. Applications will close on 9 May 2025. This gives youth a short period of time to apply for teaching assistant jobs.
How To Apply For Phase 5 Teaching Assistant Jobs
Youth must register on the SAYouth.mobi platform to apply for teaching assistant jobs. The DBE has confirmed that SAYouth.mobi will be the only official recruitment source for 2025 teaching assistant positions.
The DBE will be working with SAYouth.mobi for the recruitment of young people. This will be the only source for recruitment.
The SAYouth.mobi platform is zero-rated, which means it is free to use and applicants do not need mobile data to register or apply.
The DBE encourages young people to register on SAYouth.mobi, or if already registered, to ensure their login details are updated to avoid delays in the application process.
The DBE has cautioned members of the public against applying for teaching assistant jobs on other platforms. Scammers have previously used the PYEI to solicit personal information from young people.
Phase 5 Teaching Assistant Job Requirements
Successful candidates will gain valuable work experience along with a variety of soft skills. Teaching assistant positions are paid, and participants receive a monthly stipend of R4,000.00 for six months, along with R30 for data.
Applicants are encouraged to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), as it will be a requirement during the application process for teaching assistant jobs.
How To Create A CV For Teaching Assistant Jobs
This phase of the project is funded by the National Treasury and the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). UIF allocations will be administered by the Industrial Development Corporation.
