The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will launch a fifth phase of its Basic Employment Education Initiative (BEEI), creating over 200,000 job opportunities for young people.

Teaching assistant applications for phase 5 open on 22 April 2025, and are aimed at those aged 18-34.

The interest in teaching assistant jobs is high as South Africa grapples with a high youth unemployment rate. The DBE has revealed that students must register on the SAYouth.mobi platform to apply for phase 5 teaching assistant jobs.

The DBE will be working with SAYouth.mobi for the recruitment of young people. This will be the only source for recruitment.

The DBE cautioned members of the public against applying for teaching assistant jobs on other platforms. Scammers have previously resorted to using the PYEI to solicit information from young people.

The SAYouth.mobi platform is zero-rated which means it's free to use and applicants are not required to have data to register and use the platform.

The DBE would therefore like to encourage young people to register on SAYouth.mobi, or if registered in the past, ensure that login details are renewed, ensuring readiness for the application process.

Youth are encouraged to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) as it will be required when applying for teaching assistant jobs.

How To Register For Teaching Assistant Jobs On SAYouth.Mobi

Step 1: Go to the SAYouth.mobi

Step 2: Click on “Join Now”

Step 3: Click on “I’m ready to join”

Step 4: Answer a few questions

Step 5: Build your profile and keep your contact details up to date.

Requirements For Phase 5 Teaching Assistant Jobs

The DBE confirmed that Phase 5 teaching assistants will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000.00 for six months, along with R30 for data.
