The SARS Customs & Excise Cadet Learnership Programme is offered on a 12-month contract and provides learners with exposure to operational environments while developing their knowledge and skills.

What Does The SARS Customs Cadet Learnership Offer?
The learnership is designed to provide participants with practical experience in the Customs & Excise environment. Successful learners will gain exposure to SARS operations, develop relevant workplace skills and contribute to the effective delivery of Customs & Excise services.
Learners will also be expected to complete the requirements of the SARS Customs Cadet Learnership Programme and follow the activity manual applicable to their division or business unit.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants for the SARS Customs & Excise Cadet Learnership Programme must meet the following requirements:
- Have an NQF Level 4 qualification with Mathematics and/or Accounting.
- Have at least one year's experience in an administration, logistics or customer service environment.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Have a valid Code B or EB driver's licence.
- Be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Be willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and overtime when required by operational needs.
- Be willing to be deployed nationally to Customs operational environments.
- Be willing to work at land border posts, including remote locations, as well as airports, seaports and inland operational offices.
- Be willing to undergo security screening, criminal record checks, qualification verification and integrity assessments.
- Be physically fit and able to work in an operational environment.
Customs & Excise Knowledge
Applicants must have a basic understanding or overview of the Customs & Excise environment.
What Will Learners Do?
Learners will be expected to perform a range of administrative and operational tasks while developing their understanding of SARS Customs & Excise processes.
The responsibilities include using relevant systems to process information accurately, assisting with administrative tasks and responding to information requests. Learners may also be required to communicate transactional outputs and queries within their area of work.
Participants will be expected to meet agreed performance objectives and service delivery standards while following established procedures and guidelines.
The role also involves identifying and resolving basic queries, escalating unresolved issues and maintaining accurate records of completed work.
Learners will need to organise their work effectively, monitor the progress of transactional activities and provide relevant information for decision-making within their area of responsibility.
Client Service Responsibilities
Learners must understand service requirements and work towards meeting client expectations. They will also be expected to communicate positively and interact effectively with teams and other stakeholders.
Governance And Compliance
Learners must comply with relevant governance, compliance and operational standards. Problems that require further investigation or resolution must be escalated through the appropriate channels.
The programme also requires learners to understand the importance of protecting sensitive information encountered during their work.

The position involves working with sensitive information. The programme specifies GOC Confidential information, which may include information where unlawful disclosure could affect the security or national interest of South Africa, or commercial information where disclosure could result in financial loss or prejudice an entity's relationships.
This may include sensitive taxpayer information, which must be handled in accordance with applicable confidentiality and compliance requirements.
