Gold Fields South Deep Engineering Learnership 2026: Rigger / Ropesman Opportunities

Gold Fields South Deep Gold Mine is offering an exciting Engineering Learnership Programme for aspiring artisans who want to build a career in the mining and engineering sector.

The learnership programme provides practical workplace training and technical learning opportunities that will prepare successful candidates to qualify as artisans.

About the Gold Fields Learnership Programme

The Rigger / Ropesman Learnership is aimed at employees and applicants from South Deep Gold Mine host communities who are interested in pursuing a career in engineering.

The programme combines:

- Practical work-based training
- External technical training
- Industry-relevant skills development
- Exposure to mining operations and engineering environments

Learnership Location

- South Deep Gold Mine
- Westonaria, Gauteng

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Gold Fields Engineering Learnership, applicants must have:

- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
- Full N2 qualification with the following four subjects:
   • Engineering Mathematics
   • Engineering Science
   • N2 Rigging Trade Theory
   • Engineering Drawing

Applicants must also:

- Be medically fit for the mining environment
- Pass a risk-based medical examination
- Pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test and any additional required assessments

Important Application Requirement

All relevant certificates must be attached to the applicant’s CV to be considered for shortlisting.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful learners will:

- Complete technical and practical training required by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA)
- Participate in additional short courses required by the mine
- Maintain consistent performance throughout the programme
- Follow all mine health and safety regulations
- Wear prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Participate in teamwork and development discussions
- Adhere to company policies, conditions of employment, and code of conduct

Learners will also be expected to uphold the values of South Deep Gold Mine, including:

- Collaborative delivery
