CSG Group is a business services provider that operates at locations across South Africa. They provide services to local companies, and for that the need skilled staff. One of their services is to provide Learnerships through their talent division.

The Talent Division includes a Skills offering that provides accredited training programmes and full qualifications aimed at developing skills and competencies for career growth. Training is delivered through a blended approach, combining online learning materials and assessments that can be accessed remotely, allowing for flexibility and minimal disruption to work schedules.

The great thing for young people who are struggling to find money for study fees is that Learnerships don't cost anything. In fact they were designed specifically to help young people by providing training towards a formal South African qualification without having to pay study fees. Not only do you have to pay to be on the Learnership, you will actually be paid a stipend. That means a small salary each month to cover your costs. The stipend is paid because as well as studying, when you are on a Learnership you will also work at a company, or 'host employer'.

Another benefit of this host employer is that when you graduate with your full qualification, you will also have a significant chunk of workplace experience to show on your CV.

And one extra benefit of Learnerships is that there are a wide range of them available. Apprenticeships had similar benefits to young people, but they were very limited in their scope.

Register for a Learnership

The one problem with Learnerships is that they are limited to the number of employers who will be able to host learners while they are doing them. This also means that Learnerships start when an employer is ready - and this can be any time during the year. So they don't all start in January or February like college and university courses.

CSG Group does help young people in one particular way because you can register your interest in starting on one of their Learnerships and they will keep your details handy. Then when a suitable Learnership is about to start they'll be able to contact you to get you signed up for it.

Visit the CSG Group website and you'll find the option to submit your CV (it's under the heading 'Students').  Supply them with your details and they'll be able to get in touch with you when a suitable Learnership is about to start.
