About the Volkswagen Toolmaker Internship
Volkswagen Group Africa is inviting applications from motivated and enthusiastic newly qualified Toolmakers to join its Production Division.
Interns will gain hands-on experience in the manufacturing, maintenance and improvement of jigs and fixtures used in vehicle production. The programme also provides exposure to engineering drawings, precision measuring equipment and modern automotive manufacturing processes.
The internship is designed to develop technical competencies while providing meaningful workplace experience within a global automotive company.
The internship will run from 1 October 2026 until 31 March 2028.
Volkswagen Toolmaker Internship Responsibilities
Successful candidates will support the production team by assisting with a range of tooling and manufacturing activities, including:
- Manufacturing jigs and fixtures from engineering design specifications.
- Maintaining, repairing and modifying body shop tooling and fixtures.
- Inspecting and measuring components using basic measuring equipment.
- Reading and interpreting engineering and technical drawings.
- Supporting body shop production through basic fault-finding and corrective actions.
- Compiling reports and maintaining tooling documentation.
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives and technical learning programmes.
Volkswagen Toolmaker Internship Requirements
To be considered for the internship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or N3 with Mathematics.
- Qualified Toolmaker.
Work Experience
No previous work experience is required, making this opportunity ideal for newly qualified Toolmakers looking to start their careers.
Skills and Competencies
Applicants should demonstrate the following technical knowledge and personal attributes:
- Basic understanding of tooling, machining or manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Good communication skills.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
