University of the Free State 

The University of the Free State, also known as UFS, founded in 1904 is a multi campus public university situated in Bloemfontein which is the capital city of the Free State. With more than 31 000 students enrolled at this university, it is made up of three campuses which offer seven faculties. The three campuses are Bloemfontein Campus (informally known as Main Campus),  South Campus in Bloemfontein, Qwaqwa Campus in the Eastern Free State. This university is internationally recognised for human reconciliation and compassion as well as for excellence in academic achievement.

The Central University of Technology, also known as CUT, was established in 1981 and offers contact and distance learning. Over 20 000 students are enrolled across two campuses. One situated in Bloemfontein and another in Welkom. CUT’s goal is to be a leader in areas of social and technological innovations and research.

The University of South Africa (Unisa) is an open and distance-learning university. They have close to 400 000 students currently enrolled from across South Africa, Africa and the world.

The Unisa website states that Unisa is South Africa's most productive University. Their website also claims that close to 50 000 students received certificates, degrees and diplomas annually.
