The University of Mpumalanga (UMP), situated in Mbombela is now open for applications if you'd like to study there in 2027. If you want to use NSFAS you must apply to the university now and then apply for NSFAS later.

UMP is one of the newer universities in South Africa, only having been established in 2014 with a student body of just over 100 students during its first year. The number of students at the university rose to over 4 000 in 2020 and continues to grow.

2027 applications for university students applying for all programmes are now open from the 1st of June 2026.

University of Mpumalanga 2027 Online Applications

Don't forget that because of the high level of competition you should apply for more than one university. You can never be certain that you will gain access to your first choice of university so it is smart to apply for more than one.

Then once matric results are released the universities will make offers to students.

Don't forget that you don't need to download any application forms.  The University of Mpumalanga is using online applications for their 2027 courses. So you will just login to the UMP student portal and make your application online.

Visit the University of Mpumalanga website application section for the latest information on what courses are available.

Don't Wait For NSFAS Or Matric Results Before Applying to UMP

NSFAS will only open for applications later in the year - but you mustn't wait till then to apply to university. Just applying to university now does not mean you are committed to that varsity. Even if they offer you a place you can still decline it - so there's no danger in applying if you aren't sure.

The real danger is that if you wait too long then the university could be full when you decide to apply.

Also don't forget that you mustn't wait for your final Matric results before applying to the university or NSFAS. Based on your grade 11 results, and early results in your Matric year, you'll have an idea of whether you are likely to get good enough results in matric finals. So apply now if you think you have a chance.
