The  University of Johannesburg has officially opened applications for students to study at the university in the 2027 academic year. Courses are very popular so its crucial to apply on time.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a large public university based in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Established in 2005 through the merger of several institutions, it has grown into one of South Africa’s leading universities, known for its focus on innovation, research, and career-oriented education. UJ offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across multiple faculties, and continues to attract high numbers of applicants each year due to its strong reputation and modern approach to teaching and learning.

In terms of size, UJ is one of the biggest universities in the country, with a student population of around 54,000 students in recent years, including both undergraduate and postgraduate enrolments. This large and diverse student body is spread across several campuses, reflecting the university’s broad academic offering and its role in expanding access to higher education in South Africa.

Applications are open now if you want to study at UJ in the 2027 academic year. This begins in February 2027 and their courses are always very popular. So it's imperative that you apply in time for the courses you are interested in. 

You should apply online as there are no walk-in applications available. Applications opened on the 1st of April 2026 and will close on the 31st October 2026. The good news is that there is no application fee to apply to study at UJ.

Start by entering the name of what you are interested in studying.
