Applications for 2025 school admissions and learner registrations in the Free State are now open. This application period will close on 30 August.
In a statement released, the Free State Department of Education said:
Application forms for learners' registration and admission for the 2025 academic year are now available at respective public schools and should be returned on or before 30 August 2024.
"Parents with children of school-going age, starting high school or changing a school, should get application forms on time for learners to be registered and admitted on time," explained the department.
The Department urged parents and guardians to apply and register on time do that "the department would be in a better position to plan for the 2025 academic year to start without glitches".
This would also ensure that the teaching time being made available is put to full use and would result in a good academic performance.
When applying, parents are encouraged to apply at schools which are close to their homes or workplaces.
Learners entering Grade R would need to be four turning five by 30 June and learners entering Grade 1 would need to be five turning six by 30 June 2025.
Documents Needed For School Admission Application
The following documents need to be submitted along with application forms:
- Copy of birth certificate
- Affidavit
- Sworn statement
- Proof of parent's identity and citizenship
- Child immunization card
- If a learner is transferring from one school to another, the most recent report is needed as well
Once parents/guardians apply, the school would then be expected to provide them with an application status a week after the closing date. Should school admission applications be unsuccessful, parents should be told the reason for the rejection and be allowed to appeal.
2025 School Calendar
The 2025 school calendar will span from 15 January to 10 December, comprising a total of 199 school days.
Schools in inland provinces typically commence on a different date than those in coastal provinces, usually with a one-week gap between them. However, for 2025, schools across the country will commence the first term on the same date (15 January 2025) and conclude it 52 school days later (28 March 2025).
Term Dates
- Term 1: 15 January - 28 March
- Term 2: 8 April – 27 June
- Term 3: 22 July – 3 October
- Term 4: 13 Oct – 10 December
The 2025 school year will therefore come to an end on 10 December for both inland and coastal schools.
