SASSA has allowed approved SRD beneficiaries to change their payment method. The following can be done:

  • Change from one payment method to another.
  • Opt from receiving the grant at the Post Office to a bank account, or vice versa.
  • Move payments from one bank to another.
  • Choose a cash send option.

SASSA has allowed for this development to address the challenges beneficiaries have experienced while trying to access their grants from the Post Offices.

Beneficiaries are reminded to wait for the SMS notification stating that funds are available before they visit the Post Office.

The SMS notification is used to limit the number of people reporting to a Post Office on a particular day and also to ensure that sufficient cash is available.

"When choosing a bank account, ensure that the account is in your name (SASSA cannot pay money for one person into the account held by another) and that the bank account is not closed. The payment process is delayed if money is sent to a closed account, as SASSA has to wait for the funds to be returned before sending it to the Post Office for collection," said SASSA.

Those who update their details are encouraged to ensure that their information is captured correctly to avoid any delays.

SASSA has also announced that the COVID-19 grant is quicker if it is paid into a bank account.
