The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) pays the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to approximately 9 million beneficiaries in South Africa every month. Now, the agency has announced that SRD grant payments will commence for the month of March.
Originally a short-term grant for the unemployed during lockdowns, the SRD grant has been extended until March 2025, providing essential support to individuals without income. President Cyril Ramaphosa says the grant kept many people out of poverty, despite its amount.
SRD Grant Payment Dates For March
SRD grant payments for March will be made between 25 March 2024 and 29 March 2024.
SRD grant payments are made during the final week of the month after Sassa completed various verification checks. These verification checks seek to ensure only deserving individuals receive SRD grant payments.
Funds will take about 2 - 3 working days to reflect in the client’s account after payment has been processed.
We also have all the information about the Sassa payment dates for the rest of 2024 on our website.
SRD Grant Increase
The SRD grant for March will be paid out at the value of R350. This will however be the final R350 grant payment as the grant is set to increase.
SRD grant beneficiaries will begin receiving R370 from 1 April 2024. This means that the R350 grant is being increased by R20 or 5.7%.
Where to Collect Your SRD Grant Payment
As an SRD Grant beneficiary, you have the option to have your grant paid directly into your bank account, enabling immediate access to the funds. Alternatively, if you don't have a personal bank account, you can opt for the Cashsend payment option.
To utilise the Cashsend option, you'll need your ID number and phone number, along with a registered cellphone and proof of identification. Grant beneficiaries can also collect their R350 grant at select retail stores nationwide, including Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer stores.
Sassa Status Check
Don't forget that you can run a Sassa status check to confirm the status of your grant applications with Sassa. You should go to the official Sassa website at www.sassa.gov.za and make sure that you aren't tricked into going to a fake site.
It is also important to confirm your banking details when doing the Sassa status check. The last thing you want is Sassa paying your grant to someone else's bank account! So make sure they have the correct banking details for paying the R350 grant to you.
There's also a Sassa whatsapp number you can use to communicate easily with Sassa.
