With it nearing the time where The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant payment collections will take place, beneficiaries are taking note of the upcoming Sassa grant payment dates. Sassa recently made changes to the upcoming Sassa grant payment schedule.

Friday morning saw Sassa release a statement which read:

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) would like to notify all social grant recipients of critical changes which have been made to the payment schedule for May 2023.

The latest Sassa grant payment schedule for May is as follows:

  • Older Persons Grants: 4 May 2023
  • Disability Grants: 5 May 2023
  • Children's Grants: 8 May 2023

Sassa previously released the Sassa grant payment dates for 2023/24 and has made it clear that, as of right now, these changes are the only ones taking place.

Explaining further, Sassa said, "In case there are any changes on the payment schedule, Sassa will communicate in due course."

The agency has urged beneficiaries to use their cards when purchasing goods instead of withdrawing all their Sassa money. Adding to this, Sassa has said that beneficiaries shouldn't rush to withdraw their money either.

"Furthermore, social grant recipients are requested to be patient and not rush to withdraw their money from their accounts, as their money will remain available in their accounts until they are ready to withdraw," read the statement.

If beneficiaries are unable to withdraw during the first few days after Sassa grant payments have been released, Sassa has said that they need not worry as their Sassa grant money will always be available to withdraw.

The agency concluded their statement by apologising for any inconvenience or frustration these changes may have caused for grant recipients.

How Sassa Grants Are Paid

Grant beneficiaries can also collect their money at several retail stores including Pick N Pay, Boxer, Usave, Shoprite and Checkers.

Alternatively, beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account from Sassa. This is an attractive option for many beneficiaries as it allows them to access their money at any time.

Retail chains have a large geographical footprint and can be found in most communities around South Africa. This makes them a convenient option for millions of social grant beneficiaries wanting to collect their money.
