The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the grant values for 2024. The value of Sassa grants will change at different points during the year due to Sassa grant increases.
Sassa distributes several different permanent grants aimed at assisting financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
The grant payment agency has confirmed the maximum grant values for April 2024 and October 2024. The value of several grants have already been increased in April 2024, however, three grants will be increased again in October 2024.
In February 2024, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the 2024 Sassa grant increases. The announcement was made during his 2024 Budget Speech. The Social Development Minister has now confirmed the grant increases.
The Minister Of Social Development, in terms of the Social Assistance Act 2024 (act No. 13 of 2004) as amended, with concurrence of the Minister of Finance, announced the increase in social grants.

These increases will be effected on 1 April 2024 and 1 October 2024 respectively.
SRD Grant Increase
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, often referred to as the R350 grant, has also been increased. Minister Godongwana announced the increase on Wednesday, 13 March 2024.
Beneficiaries will see an increase from the current R350 to R370 starting 1 April 2024, marking a rise of R20 or 5.7%. Godongwana referred to the increase as fulfilling the fundamental rights of vulnerable adults living in the country.
