Thousands of learners participated in the 2024 final matric examinations. For 2024, there were 13 250 IEB learners that sat down to write their final exams.

The 2024 IEB matric exams started on Tuesday, 10 September 2024, with most of the exams conducted in October and November. The final exam, the Agricultural Management Practice paper, was written on Thursday, 28 November 2024.

Once students receive their matric results, they can then decide whether they would want to do a matric rewrite. This will give them an opportunity to improve their matric results.

IEB Matric Rewrites

The next matric rewrite opportunity available for IEB students is the May/June matric examination period. The IEB has confirmed that registrations will open on 1 March and will close on 14 March.

Students can apply for any number of subjects (except LO) and will have to write both papers in subjects that have a Paper 1 and Paper 2. You have to apply online to rewrite your IEB final matric examinations.

The cost to rewrite is R1510 per paper.

Once these exams are marked and resulted, these students will apply for/receive a “combined” IEB final Grade 12 certificate.

When 2024 IEB Matric Exams Results Will Be Released

The IEB confirmed that the 2024 IEB matric results for the November 2024 examination period will be released to candidates on 13 January, subject to Umalusi's approval.

Should candidates be unsatisfied with their matric results, they are able to request a re-mark with applications closing on 31 January 2025. These IEB matric re-mark results will then be released on 1 March 2025.

How To Check Your IEB Matric Results

Firstly, the IEB will forward the final Matric results to schools and they will then pass on the results to their candidates.

You can then view it in the following ways:

  • Pupils will be able to find their results online using the IEB website when they are released.
  • Results can also be accessed via SMS, using the following options:
    • If the IEB has been provided with your cellphone number, your results will automatically be sent to the number provided.
    • You can register by SMS by sending an SMS to 35135.
      • The SMS should read: Results (your examination number) (your DOB yyyymmdd)
      • You will then receive a message notifying you that the registration has been
successful and you will receive your results when they are released.

As for your certificate/statement of results that is released by UMALUSI, they will be sent to your school in April after the Matric results release.

The IEB facilitates Umalusi-accredited examinations in all subjects recognised in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) for the schools that are registered with it.

This means that learners from IEB schools receive the same qualifications as those who participated in the Department of Basic Education (DBE) matric exams.
