The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes social grants to financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. These social grants will be increased in October 2024.
Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Every year, there are two Sassa increases announced by the Finance Minister. This year, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, announced that Sassa grant increases will be implemented on 1 April and 1 October.
We are sensitive to the increase in the cost of living for the nearly 19 million South Africans who rely on these grants to make ends meet. In this regard, we have done as much as the fiscal envelope allows.
The next Sassa payment increase will occur on 1 October 2024. Here’s a breakdown of the Sassa grant increases announced.

- Older Persons grant - R2,190
- Older Persons (75 years and older) - R2,210
- Disability grant - R2,190
- War Veterans grant - R2,210
- Child Support Grant - R530
- Care Dependency grant - R2,190
- Foster Care grant - R1,180
Sassa Payment Dates For October 2024
Sassa grants will be paid from the second day of October 2024. Grant beneficiaries are reminded that they do not need to collect their grant payment on the specified date as the money will be available to use when they need it.

SRD Grant Payment Dates For October 2024
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is paid to more than 9 million people monthly. However, beneficiaries of these grants are not paid when permanent grants are paid.
While Sassa has not provided SRD grant payment dates for October 2024, the grant is usually paid in the final week of the month.
