Offering nine faculties for students to choose from, the University of Pretoria (UP) is one of the largest research universities in South Africa.

The nine faculties are Economic and Management Sciences, Education, Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law, Natural and Agricultural Sciences, Theology & Religion and Veterinary Science.

Each faculty has its own admission that prospective students need to meet in order to qualify.

UP also offers a Programme Calculator where candidates can capture their school subjects and marks in order to find out for which study programmes they may be considered for. Even if you are eligible for a certain programme there are no guarantees that you will be admitted.

Here are the minimum admission requirements for University of Pretoria courses:

  • Candidates must comply with the minimum requirements for degree studies, as well as with the minimum requirements for the relevant programme.
  • The calculation of an Admission Point Score (APS) that is based on a candidate’s achievement in SIX recognised NSC 20-credit subjects by using the NSC seven-point rating scale. Life Orientation is a 10-credit subject and may not be used for calculating the APS. Life Orientation is also not a faculty-specific subject requirement.
