Is vaccination needed when you're submitting your R350 grant application? Let's answer that question for you.

The Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was introduced to support unemployed individuals once the Covid-19 pandemic hit. The grant sees beneficiaries receive R350 every month and is now in it's second round.

So do you need to be vaccinated in order to qualify? To this question, SASSA has answered:

Covid-19 vaccination is not part of the special Covid-19 SRD grant application criteria.

The actual, and only, requirements for the grant are as follows:

  • South African citizens/permanent residents/refugees/asylum seekers/holders of special permits
  • Unemployed
  • Have no alternative source of income or financial support from any other source
  • Not be receiving a NSFAS or Funza Lushaka bursary
  • Not be receiving UIF funds
  • Between the ages of 18 and 60

Caregivers are also eligible to receive the grant if they are not receiving any grant on their own behalf.

With the introduction of the SASSA R350 grant, a large number of SRD SASSA applications were rolling in by heading to srd.sassa.gov.za, as the website serves many purposes. Not only can you do your SASSA application for R350 on there, you can also check your SASSA SRD status. This is also the SASSA website to correct banking details and other information.

Once you're approved for the SRD grant, you can choose to receive your SASSA grant payments through a bank account, Post Office, CashSend, PicknPay or Boxer stores.
