The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is the only financial support available to unemployed people living in South Africa, from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Every month, over 9 million people apply for the R370 grant.
Many applicants and beneficiaries have been wondering whether a Sassa reapplication is needed for the grant for November. Sassa has however confirmed that SRD grant beneficiaries don't have to reapply for R370 grant payments.
Sassa explained that individuals that submitted valid applications from previous months are automatically considered for subsequent monthly SRD grant payments and there is no need for clients to re-apply each month.
The agency warned SRD grant applicants to avoid submitting duplicate applications, as the system is designed to review ongoing applications without requiring further action from recipients.
The Agency advises clients not to re-apply each month.
"Sassa evaluates all applications on a monthly basis, meaning that all valid applications from previous months are also considered," said the agency.
Once you've been approved once and your circumstances don't change, you will automatically be approved for the following month.
The R370 Sassa grant is typically paid out monthly, and the process for receiving it usually remains consistent unless there are changes in eligibility criteria or payment methods. Every month, Sassa verifies beneficiaries eligibility criteria.
Sassa conducts verification checks in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs for identity and citizenship verification, and shares bank details with the Department of Treasury for income verification. Once eligibility is confirmed, Sassa proceeds with payments, which accounts for the end-of-month payment schedule.

Beneficiaries are urged to do a Sassa status check using the Sassa SRD website to check the exact date they can expect their grant payment to reflect in their bank accounts.

- First, visit the SASSA SRD status website for the SRD status check section.
- You will then be asked to fill in your ID number, as well as the cell phone number that you used when you submitted your grant application.
- Hereafter, you will be able to check the progress of your grant by doing a Sassa status check.
- For security, you will receive a One time pin, Enter the OTP to see your SRD grant payment status.
- You will also be able to see your grant payment date
What If You Don’t Have An SRD Grant Payment Date
Approved SRD grant beneficiaries without a payment date will not receive their R370 grant. This usually stems from incorrect or incomplete information.
Common Issues
- Missing Banking Details: Beneficiaries must provide bank account details on the Sassa website.
- Postbank Accounts: Sassano longer opens Postbank accounts. Update with new banking details.
- Cash Send/Mobile Money: An incorrect ID or cellphone number can delay payments. Consider alternative banking options.
