Sassa distributes several different permanent grants aimed at assisting financially vulnerable people living in South Africa.
Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
The Careers Portal has been inundated with questions from members of the public regarding a “Sassa R2090 grant”.
News articles along with social media messages referring to a “Sassa R2090 grant” have confused grant beneficiaries and members of the public alike.
The confusion stems from the fact that only one social grant in South Africa has been referred to by its monetary value, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant which is commonly referred to as the R370 grant. Therefore, it's safe to assume that the “Sassa R2090 grant” is not the name of a Sassa grant but rather refers to the monetary value of the grant.
Several grants had a monetary value of R2090 including the older persons grant, the war veterans grant and the disability grant. However, due to Sassa grant increases, the monetary value of these grants has changed.
The first round of increases usually come into effect on 1 April and grants will increase again on 1 October respectively.
