Independent Tribunal For SASSA Grant Appeals
Sassa SRD grant beneficiaries who submitted a social relief grant appeal application weren't always being assessed by the independent tribunal. Before, the SRD grant was governed under the National Disaster Act which saw an appeal application reassessed by Sassa when it comes to Sassa grants.
Once the pandemic slowed down, the SRD Sassa grant (social relief of distress grant) was then governed under the Social Assistance Act. This means that SRD R350 grant appeals are assessed externally from Sassa and the Department of Social Development, by the Independent Tribunal for social assistance in the form of the Sassa grant.
Through the provision of the Social Relief of Distress grant SASSA has assisted millions of South Africans from lower income households who face undue hardship and has ensured that those most vulnerable can meet their basic needs.
For any queries involving the Sassa status check, you will need to contact SASSA directly or visit your nearest SASSA office to confirm that you have Sassa's status approval. This will usually show as Sassa Reconsideration status.
