The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has revealed that many Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applicants have been paid their grants. They added that grant applicants who have not received their payments may need to take additional steps to access their money.

While around 7 million R350 grant applicants were approved for payment, many individuals who applied for the grant had their applications for the crucial relief mechanism rejected. There are several reasons which can lead to a R350 grant denial.

Sassa provides grant applicants with a reason why their grant application was rejected. This SRD grant rejection status also informs the applicant what they may need to do in order for their application to be approved.

SRD grant applicants can submit a SRD grant appeal if they are unhappy with the decision made by Sassa to reject their grant application.

Sassa has now revealed that all SRD grant appeals have been completed by the agency. They explained that applicants who submitted successful reconsideration requests have been paid.

The assessment of all reconsideration applications has been completed and those approved, paid.

Sassa also revealed that if an applicant's reconsideration request has been approved but they have not yet received their money, it may be due to issues with their banking account information.

The agency said possible reasons why they were not paid may be due to the applicant failing to provide bank account information or the bank account information they did provide being inaccurate and failing the bank verification checks used by Sassa and National Treasury.

Grant applicants should update their banking details on the Sassa R350 grant website to ensure they receive their successful R350 grant appeal money.
