The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has revealed when millions of R350 grant beneficiaries will be paid every month. While the grant does not have a fixed payment date, the agency revealed during which period of the month successful R350 grant applicants are paid the relief grant.

Sassa announced that R350 grant beneficiaries will be paid from 25 August 2023 for successful R350 grant applications submitted for August. The agency explained that several factors lead to grants being paid during the final days of every month.

Paseka Letsatsi, Sassa spokesperson, explained that all R350 grant applications are verified to ensure the person applying for the grant meets all the eligibility requirements. Even though grant beneficiaries only submit a R350 grant application once, their application is verified by Sassa every month before they can be paid the relief grant.

These verification checks conducted by Sassa are usually completed towards the end of the month. Sassa said approved R350 grant applicants will be paid the social relief grant between the 25th and the end of the month.

Payments (for clients who are approved for the month of August 2023) will be processed from 25 -31 August 2023.

Sassa says while grant payments are processed between these dates, the money may only reflect in the beneficiary’s bank account a few days later.

Funds will take about 2 - 3 working days to reflect in the client’s account after payment has been processed.

It is estimated that more than 10 million people submit applications to Sassa for the R350 grant every month. Of the millions of applications received monthly, only around 7 million people are approved for payment.

Sassa R350 Verifications

Sassa conducts several verification checks to ensure that only deserving R350 grant applicants are paid the R350 grant. These verifications seek to ensure the grant applicant meets the R350 grant requirements.

Sassa R350 Grant Requirements

To qualify for the R350 grant, applicants must be South African citizens, unemployed and living within South Africa’s borders. Permanent residents and special permit holders also qualify to receive the R350 grant.

Grant beneficiaries may not receive any support from the South African government or a state entity. This includes benefits from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) or funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). They may also not be maintained by a state institution.

R350 grant applicants may not have an income of more than R624. In terms of the R350 grant, income refers to the money a person has in their bank account. If the funds in their bank account exceed R624, their application for the R350 grant will be rejected.

How Sassa Checks and Verifies R350 Grant Applicants

Sassa collaborates with other state entities and banks to ensure grant applicants meet the eligibility criteria. This includes verification of identity numbers and citizenship with the Department of Home Affairs.

Bank verification occurs when This client's details are sent to the Department of Treasury, then to the bank chosen by the applicant to verify their income.

The process of bank verification does not have a set timeframe. The applicant's details go to the Department of Treasury; to the specific bank chosen by the applicant and when it is verified, it then goes back to Treasury and is lastly handed over to SASSA for payment purposes.

Completing R350 Grant Sassa Status Check

Individuals who applied for the R350 grant can check if their application has been approved by completing a Sassa Status Check. If your Sassa R350 grant status is approved then you will be paid the R350 grant.

If an applicant completes a Sassa status check and determines that their R350 Sassa Application is rejected, you can submit a R350 grant appeal to the Independent Tribunal For Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).

If you want to check on your grant payment information this can be done via the Sassa official website. We also have information on grant payment dates for 2023 on the Skills Portal website.
