The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has increased the value of social grants. Millions of grant beneficiaries will receive increased grant payments in October 2024.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) would like to notify social grant beneficiaries of an increase in social grant amounts, effective October 2024.
Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
During the annual budget speech, the Minister of Finance announced grant payment value adjustments. These adjustments are normally small increases to protect the value of grants against inflation.
The first increase in social grant payments for 2024 was implemented in April 2024. The second increase will be implemented in October.

Which Sassa Grants Will Be Increased Increased In October 2024
The Old-Age Pension grant will increase by an additional R10, bringing the total to R2,190 per month for recipients aged 60 to 74 and R2,210 for those aged 75 and older.
The Disability Grant will also increase by R10, resulting in a new monthly amount of R2,190, while the Care Dependency Grant will rise by the same amount, bringing it to R2,190 per month.
Additionally, the War Veterans Grant will increase by R10, with the new total being R2,210 per month.
This increase reflects, in addition to the increase earlier in April 2024, reflects government commitment to improving the welfare of all grant beneficiaries.
Which Sassa Grants Won’t Be Increased in October 2024
The Child Support grant, Foster Care grant and the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will not be increased in October 2024.

Sassa Payment Dates For October 2024
Sassa grants are paid from the second day of October 2024. Grant beneficiaries don't need to collect their grant payment on the specified date as the money will be available to use when they need it.
