The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes social grants to millions of financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. More than 18 million people are currently benefiting from permanent Sassa grants.

Permanent Sassa grant payment increases are distributed by Sassa. These include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

In October 2024, Sassa grant beneficiaries received an increased Sassa grant payment of R10. Many beneficiaries may now be wondering when the next Sassa grant increase will be.

When Is The Next Sassa Grant Payment Increase for 2024 and 2025?

Every year, there are two Sassa grant increases announced by the Finance Minister during the annual budget speech.

These increases are implemented in April and October of the year. This then means that the next Sassa increase will most likely take place on 1 April 2025.

Recent Sassa Grant Payment Increase

The most recent Sassa increase was implemented on 1 October 2024. The Old-Age Pension grant, Disability Grant, Care Dependency Grant and War Veterans Grant was increased by R10.

This increase reflects, in addition to the increase earlier in April 2024, reflects government commitment to improving the welfare of all grant beneficiaries.

Sassa grants are paid from the second day of October 2024. Grant beneficiaries don't need to collect their grant payment on the specified date as the money will be available to use when they need it.

The SRD Grant Payment

The Social Relief of Distress grant is not expected to increase when other social grant values go up. This is because the SRD grant is still classified as a temporary grant.

When the grant was introduced, its value was R350. It only received one increase in the three years of its implementation. This increment was R20.
