Parents who have received rejection letters for the placement of their children across schools in Polokwane for next year can appeal the decision at the local circuit offices. The Limpopo education department has revealed when parents can submit appeal applications.
The appeals process began on 1 November 2023. Parents who are still seeking space for their children in all grades have until 10 November 2023 to submit their appeals.
Many parents have already acted on the call from the education department in Limpopo and have begun to submit their appeal applications at the local circuit education office. However, limited space is causing concerns as some parents, even those who applied on time, may face rejection.
The education department has opened an opportunity for learners who received rejection letters from their chosen schools or nearby schools that are at full capacity to appeal through the circuit office.
The registration process for 2024 started in May 2023 for lower grades and in September 2023 for senior learners. Despite the early start to the 2024 admissions process, many learners are yet to find out which school they will continue their education journey in the new year.
MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has called on parents to submit their appeals before the 10 November deadline.
From the first to the tenth of November 2023, parents can visit their relevant circuit offices to ensure that every child is placed within the registration period.
Lerule-Ramakhanya believes that if parents abide by the deadline they will secure placement for their children and avoid disappointment.
Please make use of the opportunity window and secure a space for your child to avoid disappointment
Limpopo’s education department is actively working on a long-term solution by building five new schools in Pukani. This move is in response to the high demand for schools in the area, especially as people migrate for better job opportunities in January 2023.
Major Changes To The 2024 Schopl Year
For the first time in many years, learners around the country will begin their academic year on the same day regardless of the province they live/study in. This is why the Department of Basic Education (DBE) suspended the use of a staggered school calendar.
Schools around the country will open on 17 January 2024 for the first term and will close 46 school days later on 20 March 2024.
The second term will run for 52 school days from 3 April 2024 to 14 June 2024 while the third term will have one extra day running from 9 July 2024 to 20 September 2024. The final term will commence on 1 October 2024 with the school year ending on 11 December 2024.
Previously, when the school year started depending on the province a school was situated in. This staggered school calendar saw schools in South Africa divided into two clusters. The coastal cluster and the inland cluster would return to schools on different dates.
