With an outstanding matric pass rate of 87.3%, the Matric Class of 2024 can now celebrate as their Matric results are now available. The 2024 matric pass rate is an increase of 4.4% from the 82.9% achieved by the class of 2023.
Matric results are now available to candidates at their exam centres and online.

- Step 1: Visit the website of the Department of Education matric results page.
- Step 2: Enter your examination number.
- Step 3: More personal details may be required.
- Step 4: Press search.
- Step 5: Your matric results will now come up.
The Minister for the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Siviwe Gwarube, announced:
At a provincial level, I’m pleased to announce that every province improved on it’s performance from 2023 and every province has achieved above 84% pass rate.

- Western Cape: 86.6%
- Gauteng: 88.4%
- Limpopo: 85.1%
- Eastern Cape: 84.98%
- Kwazulu-Natal: 89.5%
- North West: 87.5%
- Northern Cape: 84.2%
- Mpumalanga: 84.9%
- Free State: 91%
The 2024 final matric exams kicked off on Monday, 21 October, and ended on the 28th of November. 832 993 public school candidates sat down to write their National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in 2024 for 150 subjects.
The Class of 2024 achieved an impressive number of 319 651 distinctions. “This represents a significant increase of over 65 000 distinctions from last year. Some of these increases were seen in key subjects, including Mathematics. I am pleased to report that every province increased the number of distinctions achieved in 2023," said Gwarube.
School Performance Report 2024
While the Minister announced the provincial results, and also congratulated the top learners in each subject and quintile, she did not announce results per school. The School Performance Report details the Matric results performance of each school in the country.
