Following the merge of the PE Technikon the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE) and the Port Elizabeth campus of Vista University (Vista PE), the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) was created and opened on 1 January 2005.

On 20 July 2017, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University was officially renamed Nelson Mandela University and remains the only higher education institution in the world to carry the name of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

It is important during the current digital age that universities have student portals so that students can gain access to information on courses offered, transcripts, email programs, timetables, exam schedules and department contact numbers.

NMU issues student communications via the NMU student portal therefore, it is important that students know how to access it.

Here is how you can access your NMU student portal:

  • Go to: https://students.mandela.ac.za
  • Username: mandela\s123456789
  • Password: network password that you set yourself or that was given to you. Your password will expire after 60 Days. Please change it when it expires.
