Nelson Mandela University offers different types of accommodation to students at different stages of their studies at the university. Students may apply for on-campus or accredited off-campus accommodation.
On-campus residences are located in the Summerstrand Campus. These residences include:
- North Campus
- South Campus
- Second Avenue Campus
- George Campus
The university provides the residences listed above, in addition to the three senior undergraduate residences and Post Graduate Student Village (PGSV) on the Summerstrand Campus.
Students may apply for on-campus accommodation online via the university website. The university reminds students that they first need to be accepted by the university before they can be considered for on-campus residences.
How to apply for on-campus accommodation:
- Click here to visit the accommodation website.
- Enter your student number and password.
- Login to the portal.
The university reminds students that the receipt of the application for on-campus residence will be acknowledged but it does not guarantee a space in residence. Priority will be given to students with a higher Applicant Score (AS).
In the event that a number of students have the same AS, the Quintile 1, 2, & 3 (no fee-paying schools) the students come from will determine the applicant’s selection. Students living outside the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality for Port Elizabeth campuses and outside the George Municipality for George Campus will be given priority.
Final acceptance into on-campus accommodation for the first years will depend on their final examination results. If they are accepted they will receive an SMS stating the date of arrival. Those who are not accepted due to on-campus accommodation being crowded will be placed in university-accredited off-campus accommodation.
All first-year students will be expected to share rooms. Applicants are grouped and selected within the same faculty so that common academic interests are shared and opportunities to learn from one another are created.
Students are informed that the university will take no responsibility for a student’s personal property. Therefore, students are encouraged to insure their belongings.
