The University of South Africa (Unisa) offers a Diploma in Policing that gives young people a pathway to enter the exciting world of policing in South Africa.

Policing and law enforcement cover a wide array of activities to keep communities safe through law enforcement, crime prevention, and public order management.

The Unisa Diploma in Policing equips students with the required legal knowledge, investigative skills, crime prevention strategies and professionalism to perform the crucial role of police in South Africa.

Students of the programme will gain an understanding of South African law, criminal justice, and evidence. They will also learn to collect evidence, interview suspects, and write reports.

They will also be equipped with skills needed to develop strategies to stop crime before it happens as well as foster an understanding with the communities they are sworn to protect. This includes grappling with subjects around ethics, conflict resolution, and cultural sensitivity.

How The Diploma Is Structured

The National Diploma in Policing is divided into three levels. Level one focuses on developing the foundational skills in law, investigation, and crime prevention while level two delves into specialised areas like crime information management, communication, and professionalism.

Level three centres around advanced modules in investigation, evidence, crime prevention, and professional development.

This qualification will be presented using both online and distance learning modes.

The Unisa Diploma in Policing opens doors to careers in the South African Police Service, Metro Police, and private security.

The qualifying learner will be able to apply composite policing, legal and management principles in the field of safety and security in an integrated fashion to secure safety in society.

Unisa Diploma In Policing Requirements

The Diploma of Policing is a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 6 qualification.

Prospective students must meet the requirements to study towards a Diploma programme at university. This means that they must have achieved a Diploma pass at least to be considered for the programme.
