SASSA provides various social grants such as grants for children, older persons grants and disability grants as well as the R350 Social Relief Distress (SRD) grant, which was introduced during the Covid-19 crisis.
SASSA was created in 2005 to distribute social grants on behalf of the Department of Social Development. This was done to improve the standards of living in the country and are given to people who are vulnerable to poverty and/or in need of support from the government.
A means test is conducted to evaluate people's financial situation and determine whether it is below a certain level to qualify for the grants.
Visit the SASSA website for more information on the grants that they offer.
