The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) implemented the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to help those unemployed individuals stay afloat during difficult times brought about by the pandemic.

Beneficiaries of the R350 grant who chose to receive their grant payments via their bank accounts may receive their payments any day of the week. Sassa has said that there is no fixed payment date for those who receive their SRD grant payments through the bank account. However, they've promised that beneficiaries will be paid for the months they qualify, with possible delays.

Whereas those who chose to collect their grant from the Post Office are only allowed to receive their payments on selected days.

R350 grant recipients are not allowed to collect their payments from the Post Office on weekends, public holidays and days when other Sassa grants are being paid.

Other grant payments such as old age, disability and child grants are usually reserved for the first week of every month.

Specific payment dates are allocated to beneficiaries according to the last three digits of their ID number. This means that certain days of the week are for certain people who have the same three digits at the end of their ID numbers.

Payment dates are regularly posted on the Post Office’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Recipients are advised to wait until they have received an SMS stating that their grant is available before visiting the post office, to avoid overcrowding.
