The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) stands as a beacon of hope for students hailing from underprivileged households in South Africa. This government bursary scheme is dedicated to providing financial assistance to tertiary students, easing the burden of education costs and fostering a path to a brighter future.

NSFAS Coverage To Public Tertiary Institutions

NSFAS extends its financial support to students enrolled in both public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. With a total of 50 TVET colleges spread across the country, aspiring students have a range of options, including West Coast College.

West Coast College As An Option for Further Education

Situated in the picturesque Western Cape, West Coast College is a prime choice for students seeking TVET education. Recognizing the significance of financial aid in pursuing their educational goals, students are naturally curious about the compatibility of West Coast College courses with NSFAS funding.

Eligibility Criteria for NSFAS Funding

While West Coast College students can indeed apply for NSFAS funding, meeting specific eligibility criteria is crucial. To ensure your NSFAS application is considered, aspiring students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be a student registered or intend to register on a PLP, NC(V) or Report 191 programme at any of the fifty (50) public TVET Colleges in South Africa;
  • Must be in need of financial assistance (NSFAS will determine whether or not a student meets the financial eligibility criteria);
  • If you are returning student you must demonstrate proven and accepted academic performance (academically deserving) in line with the College’s progression policy or the progression prescriptions of the Bursary Rules and Guidelines (whichever is higher);
  • Must not be enrolling for a qualification that duplicates previous learning that was state-funded; and
  • Applicants will qualify if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum and are admitted/received a firm offer for enrolment in a College.

Applying for NSFAS Funding at West Coast College

Aspiring students who have met the eligibility criteria can apply for NSFAS funding upon enrolling in West Coast College courses. The financial aid scheme's application process involves submitting required documentation and meeting deadlines, as outlined by NSFAS guidelines.

Applications can be submitted online using the NSFAS website or at your college's financial aid office.
