Postbank has guaranteed recipients of grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) that their gold cards will remain functional and won't have expired in December. Despite the expiration of thousands of gold cards, those that have already expired and those set to expire, they will remain fully operational throughout 2024.
Sassa pays 19 million permanent grants every month. These grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
In 2023, it was revealed that around 5.3 million cards were meant to be replaced 31 by December 2023. A considerable number of these Sassa gold cards have already lapsed.
However, Sassa then announced that they would be extending the validity of these Sassa cards and that they could be used beyond December.
All grant beneficiaries are reminded that SASSA gold cards will not expire in December and will continue to work for grant payments beyond December 2023.
Where To Collect Your Sassa Grant
Grant beneficiaries can collect their social grants at various retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, and Checkers. They can also use their Sassa cards at ATMs.
Beneficiaries will however no longer be able to withdraw cash at Post Offices.
Alternatively, beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account. This grant payment method allows beneficiaries access to their funds at any time after Sassa completes the payment.
Sassa has urged beneficiaries to remember the following:
There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.
Sassa Gold Cards offer various transaction benefits, such as free withdrawals in retail shops and free statements, empowering beneficiaries and saving on transaction costs.
