Postbank has assured South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant beneficiaries that their gold cards will continue to work and not expire in December. While thousands of gold cards will expire and have already expired, they will still be fully operational in 2024.
Sassa distributes 19 million permanent grants monthly. These grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Some Sassa grant beneficiaries whose Sassa gold cards are expiring this December are deeply concerned that they will not be able to access their grant money. However, there is no need for concern as the validity of Sassa gold cards have been extended.
So Will Sassa Cards Expire At The End of December?
While the Sassa gold card might be expired, grant beneficiaries can continue use their gold cards as its validity has been extended.
Earlier this year it was revealed that there are approximately 5.3 million cards due for replacement by 31 December 2023. Many of these Sassa gold cards have already expired.
While beneficiaries could continue using these cards until the end of the year after Sassa extended the validity of Sassa gold cards, there was uncertainty about what would happen to expired gold cards in 2024.
Postbank spokesperson Bongani Diako said that Sassas beneficiaries should be aware of scammers this festive season who misinform them about the validity of Sassa gold cards.
We assure all Sassa beneficiaries that they will be paid their SASSA grants this December and beyond with their sassa gold cards.
All grant beneficiaries are reminded that they do not need to replace or renew their Sassa gold cards in order to access grant payments.
"Sassa beneficiaries are urged to rest easy, stay at home and ignore anyone that calls them to any venues under the pretext that the SASSA gold cards are expired and they should change their cards."
