The October/November 2024 exams at the University of South Africa (Unisa) have concluded. Thousands of students will be awaiting their Unisa exam results.

While many students will be satisfied with their 2024 Unisa exam results, some students may not be. There are several options available to these students depending on their Unisa Exam code.

What Unisa Exam Codes Mean

Students will be provided with codes when accessing their Unisa results.

These codes indicate whether a student was successful or not in the examinations as well as other circumstances which require students to take action.

  • 1: Pass - Achieved with a final mark of 50% and above.
  • 2: Pass with Distinction - Obtained with a final mark of 75% and above.
  • 3: Failed - Received a final mark below 50%, requiring re-registration for the module.
  • 5: Absent from Examination - Issued when submissions are not received within the allowed period, requiring re-registration for the module.
  • 6: Supplementary Examination - Granted under certain circumstances, allowing students a second examination opportunity without re-registration.
  • 7/99: Results Outstanding - Marks are pending, and students can follow up from December 14, 2023.
  • 8: Not Admitted to an Examination - Issued if examination admission criteria are not met, necessitating re-registration.
  • 24: Absent – Supplementary - Given when the proctoring tool is not used in the first examination opportunity; re-registration is required for the second opportunity.
  • 28: Script Rejected - Outcome for students not using the proctoring tool in their second opportunity; re-registration is necessary.

When Students Will Get Unisa Exam Results

Unisa started the staggered release of exam results with final releases set to be completed by 13 December 2024.

Unisa Exam Remark Applications Now Open

The university has also opened its exam remark application period.

Unisa students have until 31 January 2025 to request a re-mark of their exam scripts or purchase a copy.

Remarks can be requested online via myUnisa or by emailing [email protected].

To purchase a copy of your exam script, students must email [email protected] with their student number in the subject line.

Remarks are only available for specific mark ranges (35%-49% or 68%-74%) and scripts flagged for academic dishonesty cannot be reviewed.

Aegrotat Application Guidelines for Unisa Students

Unisa confirmed the requirements for Aegrotat applications. An aegrotat is a provision allowing students to apply for consideration when illness, bereavement, or exceptional circumstances prevent them from writing an exam.

At Unisa, they are only available to postgraduate students under certain conditions.

Postgraduate students who miss their first online examination due to issues such as power cuts, internet disruptions, illness, or the death of a loved one may apply for an aegrotat.

Applications must be submitted online within 10 days of the scheduled exam date and are not accepted once results have been released.

Unisa adds that aegrotats are not permitted for missed second examination opportunities. Full application details can be found on the Aegrotat and Special Exams page on Unisa's website.

Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply for an aegrotat. They are automatically entitled to two consecutive examination opportunities per module, with the second serving as a fallback for missed or failed first attempts.

Applications for an aegrotat at the undergraduate level will result in a system error.

Unisa said no third opportunities will be granted to undergraduate students. Students who miss both exam opportunities must re-enrol for the module.
