The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments for August 2024 are underway. As usual, the agency has implemented rigorous verification processes to ensure only eligible beneficiaries receive this vital support.
SRD grant payments for August commenced on 24 August and will be paid until 30 August 2024.
Payments (for clients who are approved for August 2024) will be processed from 24-30 August 2024.
How to Check Your SRD Grant Status
- Visit the official Sassa SRD website.
- Select the "Application Status" section.
- Enter your South African ID number and the phone number used during your application.
- Click "Check Status." You may receive a one-time PIN (OTP) via SMS.
- Enter the OTP to view your application status.
SRD Grant Payment Options
Approved beneficiaries can choose between two convenient payment methods:
- Direct Bank Deposit: Have your SRD grant funds transferred directly to your bank account.
- Supermarket Collection: Visit any of the authorized supermarkets: Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OK, or Spar.
SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the SRD grant, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
- Be unemployed and not receiving any other social grant.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 59.
- Have a monthly income of less than R624.
- Not be registered for any form of tertiary education.
Sassa SRD Verification Process
Sassa conducts thorough verification checks to ensure the integrity of the SRD grant. This includes:
- Identity Verification: Confirming the applicant's residency status using the Department of Home Affairs database.
