The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has released the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payment dates for May 2024. These payment dates inform millions of people when they can expect to receive their Sassa SRD grant payment.

In March 2024, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana revealed that the SRD grant payment would be increased from R350 to R370. This means that individuals who have been approved for an SRD Grant payment in May 2024 will receive a payment of R370.

SRD Grant Payment Dates For April

Sassa said approved SRD grant applicants will receive SRD grant payments from Monday, 27 May 2024 and will conclude on 31 May 2024.

Payments (for clients who are approved for May 2024) will be processed from 27-31 May 2024.

Sassa informed beneficiaries that their money will take between two and three days before it is reflected in their bank account. Once the money is reflected in their bank account, they can begin using tier grant money.

Funds will take about 2-3 working days to reflect in the client’s account after payment has been processed.

Sassa encouraged grant beneficiaries to check their SRD grant status to ensure they have been approved for payments in April.

Clients are encouraged to view their status on the SRD website for the exact date that payment will reflect in their bank accounts

How Sassa Verified SRD Grant Applications For May 2024

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu announced the inclusion of Section 6C in the Social Assistance Act, guaranteeing ongoing payments to current beneficiaries until May 2024. Section 6C serves as a transitional measure to a new system.

To prevent interruptions, Sassa will use assessment data from March 2024 to assess eligibility for May payments, ensuring uninterrupted financial support. Beneficiaries approved in March 2024 will likely receive a R370 grant in May 2024.

To ensure uninterrupted assessments and payments made during the transition between the Regulations published on 29 March 2023 under Notice No: and these Amendment Regulations, the Agency may use data used during the March 2024 assessment cycle, in terms of regulation 2, for continued assessments of clients up to 31 May 2024

This was a critical choice by Sassa as it will ensure that individuals who previously qualified for the SRD grant will continue being paid until May 2024.
