The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) pays the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to more than 8 million unemployed adults every month. The agency has confirmed when beneficiaries of the grant will be paid in February 2024.

SRD Grant payments for February will be made in the final week of the month. Payments will be made from 23 February 2024 to 29 February 2024.

Sassa reminded grant beneficiaries that During the designated payment week, beneficiaries can check their Sassa status on the SRD website to determine the exact date when their Sassa grant payment will be deposited into their bank accounts.

The agency also reminds grant recipients that it typically takes approximately 2-3 working days for the funds to appear in their bank accounts after the payment has been processed.

Funds will take about 2 - 3 working days to reflect in the client’s account after payment has been processed.

Why And How Sassa Completes SRD Grant Verification Checks

To qualify for the SRD grant in South Africa, applicants must meet strict eligibility criteria set by Sassa.  They need to be SA citizens, permanent residents, or special permit holders.

They may not be receiving other government support in the form of UIF benefits or NSFAS bursaries. Their bank account should have less than R624 to be eligible for the R350 grant.

Sassa conducts verification checks in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs for identity and citizenship checks and shares bank details with the Department of Treasury for income verification.

Once satisfied with eligibility, Sassa proceeds with payments, and this verification process accounts for the end-of-month payment schedule.

How To Check If Your SRD Grant Application Was Successful

SRD grant applicants can  complete a Sassa status check to see if they were approved for grant payments. If an applicant’s SRD Sassa Application is rejected, they may submit a SRD grant appeal to the Independent Tribunal For Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).

Approved With No Pay Date

Several SRD grant beneficiaries have complained that their SRD grant payment has been approved but they do not have a pay date.

Sassa explained that this often happens because they do not have access to the grant beneficiaries' correct and updated bank details.

Grant beneficiaries who are approved for an SRD grant payment but do not have a pay date are encouraged to update their banking details on the SRD grant website.

Please visit the SASSA SRD website at http://srd.sassa.gov.za to ensure that the details that SASSA has for you, are correct - especially if you were not paid.

Pending SRD Grant Status

If you have a pending SRD grant status it means verification of your application for that particular month is still pending. Sassa encouraged beneficiaries with a pending SRD grant status to be patient while Sassa

SRD Grant Extended To 2025

Originally a short-term grant for the unemployed during lockdowns, the SRD grant has been extended until March 2025, providing essential support to individuals without income. President Cyril Ramaphosa says the grant kept many people out of poverty despite its amount.
