More than 25 million people will be paid social grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) during the month of January. Wednesday was the first day Sassa grant payments would be made for not only January but 2024.
Sassa grants play a pivotal role in providing support to vulnerable individuals and families in South Africa through the distribution of grants from the South African government. Grants assist families to afford basic goods and services.
Their grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grants, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Grant beneficiaries usually get their grant money at the beginning of each month. These payments will commence on the second day of each month, excluding weekends and public holidays.

Collecting Sassa Grants
Sassa advises beneficiaries not to rush withdrawals on the first available day, emphasising that the money remains in their accounts until needed.
Beneficiaries can collect grants through bank accounts, retail outlets, mobile cash pay points, and Sassa Gold Cards, which have extended validity.
SRD Payment Dates For January
Sassa has stated that the SRD grant will be distributed during the last week of the month. For January 2024, SRD grant payments will be made from 25 January until 31 January.
During payment week, Sassa has encouraged beneficiaries to view their Sassa status on the SRD website, to have a look at the exact date that their grant payment will reflect in their bank accounts.
The Agency has reminded grant recipients that it takes around 2-3 working days for their funds to reflect in the beneficiaries' account, after the payment has been processed.
